Between sociology and computer science, Casilli's researches focus on the effect of technology on imaginary, social ties and online freedom of expression.

In addition to numerous scientific publications in French, English and Italian, he is the author of three books.
The last one, "Les numériques liaisons. Vers une nouvelle sociabilité?" (Digital connections. Towards a new society?) Editions du Seuil, Paris, 2010), analyzes the impact of networks on the practices of self-presentation (avatars, photos, autobiographical texts) and social capital of the Internet users.
